What the hell is Microsoft Doing?

I was reading this article http://www.infoworld.com/d/mobilize/microsoft-add-yet-another-smartphone-os-year-615 and I was wondering what the hell Microsoft is thinking.
Microsoft should be stream-lining their mobile business not making it more confusing for the consumer. This is why their mobile business is failing in the first place because they have too much competition, not just with RIM and Apple, but with themselves!
Here is the current Windows Mobile line up, Zune, Windows Phone 7, Windows Mobile 6.5, Danger Sidekick OS, the Kin, and Windows Embedded Compact 7. So you have an OS for Music players, 4 for phones and pda’s. and one for tablets and rumored that Windows Phone 7 could run on a tablet as well. Come on Microsoft, I like to be able to pick my OS but this a joke coming from one company. Apple has two operating systems one for embedded devices iOS and then Mac OS X for their PC’s, even then both operating systems share a common code base. All Linux distro’s whether for embedded devices or for PC’s share a common code base as well, such as Android and ChromeOS.
I’m sure some of these Microsoft operating systems have some common code. I hope that Windows Phone 7 is just the Zune OS and I’m sure Windows Embedded Compact 7 is just a stripped down version of Windows 7, but I don’t know that..mostly because I can’t see the code. Microsoft, streamline your mobile business stop making competition for yourself and maybe this Mobile division will actually take off and actually be a viable competitor to Apple, Google and RIM.
